Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers of America of Greater New Orleans is working to assist in the facilitation of unaffiliated volunteers related to the oil spill response efforts.
There are currently a very limited number of organizations reporting oil spill related opportunities.
Organizations with volunteer opportunities available should communicate needs to Volunteers of America of Greater New Orleans and Hands On New Orleans. Those agencies are working closely to ensure that volunteer needs are filled upon request.
Volunteers can also call the Deepwater Horizon Response Volunteer Request Line at 1-866-448-5816.
Seafood Safety
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) hotline for reporting seafood safety issues: 1-888-INFO-FDA.
The FDA encourages fishermen and consumers to report potential seafood contamination.
Information about the Deepwater Horizon Response
www.GeoPlatform.gov/gulfresponse is a federal website designed to provide near-real-time information about the response to the oil spill. The website incorporates data from various agencies responding to the spill, including the spill trajectory, closed fishing areas, wildlife and place-based Gulf Coast resources (including pinpointed locations of oiled shoreline and daily position of research ships).
